Outside of these areas, backyard burning is allowed, as are landclearing and agricultural burning. All burning requires a permit.

Backyard Burn Permits are intended for small fires made of natural vegetation. The permits are free: you may download one here (BURN PERMIT 2012), or pick one up from the Peninsula Sanitation Office, Pioneer Market, Jack’s Country Store, the Surfside Homeowners Association Office, and the fire stations in Ocean Park and Seaview.

Please read the entire permit, sign the back and keep it with you at your burn site every time you burn.

Beginning in July, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced the ban of all burning in state forest lands except:

Recreational fires in approved fire pits within designated campgrounds

Fires specifically prescribed by DNR during this period of time to enhance or restore fire-dependent ecosystems and forest health

As approved in writing by DNR when there are compelling reasons for an exception.

The burn ban will remain in effect for state forest lands until September 30, 2011.

Gas and propane self-contained stoves and barbeques are exempt from the ban.

Fire District 1 is responsible for issuing its own burn permits, and local conditions are monitored closely for fire danger. If a burn ban becomes necessary, Fire District Personnel will issue a press release locally, and will publish the information on the District website: www.pcfd1.org.

Where burning is allowed, only natural vegetation (leaves, brush, etc.) may be burned. Burn barrels are not allowed by state law. State laws also prohibit the burning of the following materials, including, but not limited to: paper or newspaper (except what is necessary to start a fire), cardboard, household garbage, treated, painted or stained wood, plywood, construction debris, paints, tires and other rubber products, plastics, asphalt and building materials, chemicals, petroleum products, metal, furniture and dead animals.

For more information about Burn Permits, click here.
