Alternatives to Burning
Recycling and composting information is available from the Pacific County Extension Agent at 360-642-9331.  Grinding yard debris makes composting easier and does not contribute to air pollution and related health problems.

Do I need a permit to burn?
You are required to have a burn permit for all outdoor burning within Pacific County Fire District 1 and Pacific County Fire District 2 (Chinook).  The only exemptions are barbecue pits and recreational campfires.  However, these also may be banned in times of dry periods.  For a printable burn permit, read this entire page. The permit is free and must be signed and carried on your person during the burn.  The burn area must not exceed 4'x4'x3'.

Are there restricted burn days?
Burning may be banned or restricted in the event of impaired air quality as determined by Olympic Air Pollution Authority.  It may also be banned or restricted by Washington Department of Natural Resources or the local fire officials during times of extreme fire danger.

Is today a burn day?
To find out if today is a burn day call 360-665-3508

What am I allowed to burn?
Outdoor burning is restricted to natural vegetation only.  Garbage, dimensional lumber, metals, or anything not classified as natural vegetation is illegal to burn.  Burning of these restricted materials will result in a bill from the Fire District for use of equipment and personnel to extinguish the burn.  Burning of these restricted materials may also result in a fine from Olympic Air Pollution Control.

Can I burn on the beach?
Beach bonfires are permitted one hundred (100) feet west of the dune grass.  They are limited in size to 4'x4'x3' (WAC173-425-030).
