PUBLIC EDUCATION

 PUBLIC SCHOOL PROGRAM

Each year in October during National Fire Prevention week, Pacific County Fire District 1 personnel visit the Ocean Park Elementary School and daycare centers in their jurisdiction to discuss fire safety with the students.

District personnel expanded their public school education program in 1999 to include a daily visit to the Ocean Park Elementary School with a different theme each day as well as a poster contest. At the end of the week an assembly was held with a special visit from Burnout, the fire safety dog. Winners of the poster contest were treated to a ride on a fire engine to the District's Ocean Park station for lunch. This was a huge success with the students as well as District personnel.

Recently the District was able to purchase the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) "Learn Not to Burn" curriculum for each teacher at the Ocean Park School, thanks to a grant from the Templin Foundation.

Presentations, tours and educational materials are available for public schools as well as for home-schooled students.

District personnel are committed to educating students about fire and life safety issues.
