DOES have a smoke detector, did you know that according to the National Smoke Detector Project, more than one of every four homes equipped with smoke detectors is at risk in the event of a fire. This report also found that there are more homes that have smoke detectors that don't work than there are homes that don't have detectors at all. Reasons for non-working smoke detectors include: Dead or missing batteries, detector vents clogged with dust, grease, or dirt, sensing chamber infested with insects.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO FOLLOW:
- Install a smoke detector on every level of your home including the attic and basement. Optimal placement is one in the immediate vicinity of every bedroom. Regardless of the size of your house, there should be a minimum of two smoke detectors on each floor.
- Test your smoke detector once a month to ensure they are working. This is also a good time to make sure the clean and vacuum the alarm to remove dirt, dust, or small insects.
- Change Batteries in your smoke detector when you change your clock forward in April and back in October.
- Replace your smoke detector if it is older than 10 years old. At 10 years old, your smoke detector will have been working for 87,000 consecutive hours. If you don't know how old your smoke detector is, or it is 10 yrs or older, replace it as soon as possible.
